The Italian Street Painting Festival presented by Youth in Arts attracts more than 60,000 people to San Rafael from the Bay Area and all over the world every year in June. This year’s theme, Bella Terra, celebrates the beauty of our earth through art, music and cuisine.

Featured Work: The Four Elements

Four Featured Artists–Sharyn Namnath, Amy Gallaher, David “Two Hawk” Glazier and Mark Cummings–will collaborate this year on a major collaborative work representing the four elements of nature: earth, air, fire and water. Come to the heart of the Festival, near 5th and A to see this large-scale piece created right before your eyes!

Mainstage performances rock the crowd, while intimate café stage performances create a relaxing ambiance and traditional Italian music drifts from the steps of Mission San Rafael Arcangel.

The 17th annual Youth in Arts Italian Street Painting Festival showcases the talents of dozens of performing groups who share the Festival spotlight with our street painting artists.

Watch Bella Cucina: Celebrating the Cuisine of the Youth in Arts Italian Street Painting Festival on Marin Public Access (Channel 26) Sunday, May 30th and Sunday June 6th at 6:00 p.m.

The Piazza dei Fiori provides visitors with an array of Italian foods prepared on site, donated by some of Marin’s finest Italian restaurants. Enjoy the day the Italian way with these delicious 2010 offerings:

From Chef Ed Vigit of Vin Antico in San Rafael: GRILLED PRAWNS – Harissa Marinated Prawns with Wild Arugula Fennel Salad, Citrus segments, pistachios with Citrus Truffle Vinaigrette. Served with House Made Flat Bread

From Chef Chez Bornia of San Rafael Joe’s in San Rafael: SAUSAGE, ONIONS AND PEPPERS – Gilled New York Style Sausage, grilled peppers and onions served with Il Fornaio breads.

From Chef David Hayden of Il Davide in San Rafael: PENNE PASTA con Arugula with a creamy red sauce cooked on site and served with Il Fornaio breads

From Chef Duilio Valenti of Frantoio Ristorante in Mill Valley: CEASAR SALAD -Hearts of romaine lettuce, classic creamy Caesar’s dressing, & parmigiano served with Il Fornaio breads

Provide an artist or we’ll assign one of our talented volunteer artists to paint your square. The largest squares are assigned to the most experienced artists–most 4×6 squares are assigned to advanced students. Sponsors wishing to specify the design of their square should plan to supply their own artist. Youth in Arts must approve all artist applications and square designs (most designs are approved)

New for 2010–sponsors of 9×9 squares and larger will receive invites to a Friday evening reception with a performance by `Til Dawn and preview of work on the street!
