From the San Francisco Bay Area and a Drake alumni, Maralisa Simmons-Cook (`Til Dawn Graduate, 2011) has gone on to study voice at The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York City. Beyond her own songwriting, Maralisa has formed several close musical relationships that have developed into continuous collaborations. She is a member of the Wali Sanga, a funk/soul collective featuring saxophonist/composer Alex Ariff, and has played with commanding artists such as Troy Roberts and Alphonso Horne through the group. She is also a co-writer/vocalist in Space Captain, a soul/hip-hop group with fellow New School student Alex Pyle.
Most recently, Maralisa has formed a vocal electronic duo group with Marin native Emiliano Flowerman called FLWRS + Maralisa, whose debut EP entitled ‘Muddy Your Feet’ was released in July of 2013. The duo is actively writing and performing in the New York area. Maralisa is now located in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, and experimenting with songwriting and musical collaborations. She greatly looks forward to graduation in December of 2014.

As an active participant in ‘Til Dawn from 2007 – 2011, Maralisa acquired an incredible musical language and skill from the group which aided her tremendously in transitioning to The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York. Incredibly close friendships were made during her time with ‘Til Dawn, as well as a discipline and an ability to work within a large group and to manage her time well. The group has an absolute familial mentality and takes care of its members, and Maralisa viewed it as a huge support system throughout high school. She still greatly values her experiences and friendships made while taking part in such a unique vision.
