Kindergarten Art Intro: Self –Portraits
We are so excited to begin the wonderful Walker Rezaian Creative HeArts Project at Loma Verde Elementary School. Our first lesson involved creating the covers of our Art Journals. Using oil pastels and the cool colors of tempera cakes, we created rich and silly pictures of ourselves.
Our first Journal question: What is a friend? We drew pictures.

Lession 2: Emotions Self Portraits
We began this lesson by looking at a variety of portraits illustrating emotions: Frida Kahlo looked MAD,  Yuyi Morales showed us SAD, Edward Munch showed us SCARED, David Hockney looked HAPPY, and Horace Pippen looked Serious.
We used our hands to demonstrate how to draw eyebrows and mouths to show the different emotions. We drew first with oil pastels and then painted with warm colors of tempera cakes to make our portraits.
Our Journal question this week: What makes my friends HAPPY?
