Musical Moments, Building Character through Music

Type: Early Childhood, Performance: On the Stage & in the Classroom, Students with Special Needs

Through Musical Moments, Mrs. D and her sidekick, “Spunky the Monkey” teach communication and friendship tools along with ways to move through challenging emotions. Tools and strategies include a calming breath, bounce back, redo and the happy habit. Student volunteers hop on the “Friendship Train” and demonstrate ways to be good listeners, show kindness towards themselves and others, and be brave to try new things. The students learn songs, poems and dances to help remember the tools introduced. Student are invited to accompany Mrs. D on percussion instruments and help lead dances. Songs and poems include, "Rainbow of Friends", "My Own Two Hands", "Keep on the Sunny Side", "This Little Light of Mine", "I Feel a Bad Mood Rising", "Shake It Off" and "Do the Right Thing!"
