Residency: Classical Indian Dance & Bhangra

Artist: Joti Singh

Type: Residencies

Description

Joti will introduce students to traditional and contemporary forms of Indian dance and music. Bhangra, a harvest dance from Punjab in northern India, is performed with high energy and with the accompaniment of a live dhol, the traditional drum played in Bhangra music. Joti often performs with a percussionist, who teaches the students about various instruments, including tablas, from north and south India. Through the residency, the students will learn the significance behind the different dance and music forms, and come to appreciate the diversity of the Indian subcontinent.
