Residency: International Arts Exchange

Artist: Multiple Artists

Type: Residencies

Description

Students will create meaningful designs on hats or backpacks and exchange those works of arts with youth in a developing country. Students will learn about self expression, art and culture  through the creation of their own unique item. The process will be photographed and include short videos. The first 4 sessions will focus on learning basic media literacy skills, design, composition and painting techniques. Sessions 5,6,7 focus on creating and finishing the product and sharing their story with their art exchange buddy on video. The culminating session occurs months later. The mentor artist returns with the exchanged work from another country and video from the sister site. Youth in Arts determines the international exchange partner which could include: Sierra Leone, Zambia, Cambodia, China or Micronesia.  Schools can opt to conduct their own extended pen pal programs if interested.
